The construction of barton mill plant consists of a small lead melting pot & lead reaction pot fitted with a stirrer in it and the stirrer arms cum blades made out of stainless steel fitted to the stirrer shaft giving very minor space between the blades and bottom plate of the reaction pot. The reaction pot is preheated and a few molten lead is poured into the pot where the rotating stirrer helps to react the oxidation process between the lead and oxygen taken from the space. This way the lead sub-oxide is generated therein the pot which is taken out by sucking through the system provided with cyclone, filter bag house & suction blower etc. barton plant is commonly used as a first step for the manufacturing of red lead oxide & litharze.
